Practical Tips
for travelling in China
Most importantly, Stay in contact !
-Get an international package for your current SIM card and activate it on arrival;
– Buy a new SIM card on arrival. And don’t forget to shut down your old SIM card unless you like unexpected bills !
How to pay ?
Bank card or cash gets unpopular in China; Mobile payments are the preferrable means. Two common apps, Alipay and Wechat, get you any one of them (or both).
Language barrier ?
Although several Chinese lessons are Duolingo seem a bit late to master this language, but trust me, it will be surprisingly useful if you could speak a little more than nihao (hello) and xiexie (thanks).
Most of the time, you can always find someone (specially the youth) speak basic english. And don’t forget Google and body language !
Transportation
Public transportation is quite well developped, don’t you worry to go to any big city or small town. High-speed trains reach most part of China, including some small counties. You need to buy train tckets with your passports. Metros and buses cover everywhere in the city.
The APPs
Very likely, Google could not solve everything in China. Gaode Map is for guiding, Alipay is for paying, on RedNote you can get inspirations and advices, on Ctrip or Qunar you could buy train / plane tickets or reserve a hotel / b&b.
Explore with open minds : )
Last but not the least, stay open-minded and don’t be shy or nervous ! Please ask someone when you need help, helping each other is our culture. And don’t forget to check AnotherLife for building your unique dream trips !
